2018 China Optical Industry Market Outlook Research Report

1. The glasses retail industry has shown a rapid growth trend

In recent years, China's macro economy has developed steadily, and the rigid demand for high myopia has also steadily increased. As the disposable income of residents increases year by year, people's living standards and consumption power continue to improve, consumers have the ability to purchase multiple pairs of glasses to meet the needs of different occasions, choose ultra-light new material frame, anti-radiation, anti-fatigue and so on. Functional lenses, as well as an aging population, have also increased the demand for reading glasses, which have spurred the rapid growth of the optical retail market.

According to the "China Eyewear Market Prospects Survey and Investment and Financing Strategy Research Report of 2018-2023" issued by the China Business Research Institute, the scale of China's optical retail market in 2017 is 73 billion yuan. It is expected that the market size of China's optical industry will further expand in 2020. The market size will reach 85 billion yuan.

2 Optical retail sales to chain

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the structure of China's optical shops was dominated by state-owned stores, and private stores were in their infancy. The main products sold by optical shops were glass lenses and frames with a single style and ordinary materials. With the application of titanium metal frame and resin lens, new technology and marketing technology have driven the development of optical retail stores. In the mid-1990s, the optical industry entered a rapid growth period. Some optical shops that value credibility have gradually grown and developed in the competition, and have grown from a single store to a large chain of regional or inter-regional.

3. Diversified retail formats are forming

With the increasing disposable income of residents, the consumption power of consumers has increased, and the consumer psychology has become increasingly mature. The consumption demand of glasses is developing in a diversified and personalized direction. Therefore, deep mining of consumer preferences of specific groups and segmentation of the consumer market has become a new trend in optical retailing: both mid-to-high-end optical chain brands to meet the individual needs of mid- to high-end consumers, and price-oriented affordable glasses supermarkets. To stimulate low-end consumption; there are professional medical vision care institutions such as eye hospitals, and there are also fast fashion optical shops that encourage one person to have multiple mirrors.

4. Foreign-funded enterprises enter the domestic optical retail market

In view of the large development potential of the Chinese optical market, some foreign optical retail giants are actively expanding the domestic market. With strong capital, multinational optical companies have rushed to the Chinese market through investment and acquisition. In a short period of time, the number of stores of foreign-funded enterprises can grow rapidly.

5, glasses retailers test water and electricity business

Due to the rapid growth of the total size of online shopping in China, domestic optical retailers have begun testing e-commerce. Compared with traditional offline channels, online sales glasses have the following advantages:

A. There are many styles of glasses, which solves the problem that the physical store cannot fully display the product style due to the area and inventory pressure;

B. It is directly in contact with the vast number of end customers, which can convey brand and product information widely, clearly and deeply.

Online sales of eyewear products also have disadvantages. First, online sales of contact lenses and invisible care solutions are strictly regulated. Secondly, online sales glasses are difficult to meet the needs of consumer customization and actual wearing experience. Therefore, the current network sales are based on standardized sunglasses and other mirrors.
